Base Line: An Entry into the World of Specialty Tea

What is Base Line specialty tea?

The Base Line is an entry point into the world of specialty tea.
It is made for those who are just beginning their journey with good tea and gradually developing an understanding of taste. This is the most accessible line in our range, without any compromises in origin, raw material quality, or production approach. Teas in this line are simple, flavorful, and clean. They do not require experience or special preparation to be understood. The taste is open and clear from the very first sip.

Origins of Base Line specialty tea

All Base Line teas come from the Ilam region in eastern Nepal. The tea farm we work with is located at an altitude of 1750–1950 meters above sea level. High altitude has a direct impact on the character of the tea. Slower leaf growth, a cool climate, and temperature differences between day and night result in a soft, balanced, and clean cup.

Processing method of Base Line

All teas are hand plucked - this is a basic standard we follow when working with Nepalese tea, without exception. The key difference between the Base Line and the Specialty or Experimental lines is its open, bright flavor, as well as consistent production volumes that allow for stable batch-to-batch repeatability.

The Base Line consists of three teas, each using a different processing method:
Ilam Night - black tea with a berry-driven profile
Darj - Darjeeling-style tea with a honeyed, floral profile
Emerald Green - green tea, fresh and grassy

Is Base Line specialty tea for me?

The Base Line is not about lowering standards, but about expanding access. We believe tea should be easy to approach while still being high-quality, high-altitude, and honest in where it comes from.

For some, teas from the Base Line will be a first step into the world of Nepalese tea. For others, they simply become part of everyday drinking. In any case, this line reflects our core philosophy: tea should be well made, clearly express its terroir, and be something you naturally want to return to.
